SUMMARY:The Art of Braiding Stories
DESCRIPTION:Braiding stories is a means of making meaning shine.  The multiple levels of an older story can become relevant and deeply personal\, when incidents\, unusual or ordinary\, in our lives can be seen as mythic and life changing.  Laura will tell one traditional tale as the ground of our exploration.  Discover the way the experience of the story triggers memory and reveals multiple meanings of a story\, lived\, imagined or remembered. Learn unique aspects of storytelling preparation\, insights into how to tell a successful story\, and the trick to the braiding of stories as a revelation\, a delight and a reconnection to the nature of story\, ecology\, and self understanding. This is a workshop that is potent for experienced storytellers\, writers\, educators\, therapists\, ministers\, healers\, beginners\, lovers of tales\, and anyone who is seeking to have a deeper sense of what it is to live in the world today. \n  \nWorkshop taught by Laura Simms\nIN-PERSON at the 1762 Hennepin space\nSaturday\, June 15\, 1:00 – 5:00 PM\nTickets $80 \n  \nInstuctor bio: Visit Laura’s website \nCalled “riveting” by the New York Times\, and “luminous” by The Soho Theater in London\, Laura Simms is an award-winning storyteller who performs\, teaches and conducts story projects worldwide. SUMMARY:Crafting Effective Line Breaks
DESCRIPTION:If you write poetry\, how do you decide where to end line 1 and start line 2? Does it sometimes just feel right\, or do you not really think about it? \nThis workshop will show you how thoughtful line breaks can add meaning and impact to a poem. It will help you place line breaks for maximum effect. In addition to looking at line breaks\, we will experiment with diction and how the right word at the end of a line may make the difference between an ordinary line and one that makes a reader think\, “Wow.” \nThis workshop is designed for beginning to intermediate poets but is open to all. \nCome to read and talk about published poems and to work on your own poems:\n• Bring 2 poems you would like to work on during the workshop.\n• Bring writing materials\, whether you prefer paper and pen\, tablet or laptop\, or even your phone. \nInstructor Bio: Janna Knittel is from the Pacific Northwest and has lived in Minnesota since 2004.
