SUMMARY:Minnesota Fringe: More Better Stories with Laura Packer
DESCRIPTION:“Mermaids\, Monsters\, & Mysterious Strangers: Stories of the Unknown and Unexpected”\n \nNot everything can be explained. Not all strangers are who they seem. Not every monster is what you expect. Award-winning storyteller Laura Packer (Staff Pick\, MN Fringe 2022) explores the creatures we fear\, the visitors we can’t explain\, and the moments when ordinary life cracks open to reveal something strange and precious underneath. Stories based in folklore\, magic\, and real-life invite you to feel delight\, dread\, and maybe even hope. Bring your curiosity. Leave your certainty at the door. Let your imagination lead\, then dive into the deep end of the unknown. \n\n$15 cash tickets at the door only! (Sorry\, no additional button discount for cash tickets) $25 advance credit card tickets and information at More Better Stories \nShowtimes: Saturday\, August 15 at 8:30pm \n

SUMMARY:Minnesota Fringe: More Better Stories with Jon Carlson
DESCRIPTION:“Oz-America”\n \nDuring the past thirty years\, I have lived for three years in Minneapolis’ Phillips neighborhood; twenty in Whittier; seven in Eau Claire\, Wisconsin; and\, most recently\, several months in the Saint Anthony Park neighborhood in Saint Paul\, Minnesota. Having been born August 19\,1973 in Denver\, Colorado\, the only official citizenship I have ever held is that of the United States of America. \nBut\, having worked for railroads for the past thirteen years\, I have also been a de facto citizen of what I like to call “Greater Trumpistan\,” since Railroaders are among the most vehement of our country’s politically enraged MAGA devotees. The contrasting energies of my work and my polity inspire me–artistically– to alchemize both MAGA rage and the rage that animates The Resistance. This political and artistic intention has crystalized through immersion in the storytelling community at the American School of Storytelling\, an experience that keeps teaching me that not only can Imagination and Humor dance with Rage\, they desire to do so for the sake of the soul’s liberation and human solidarity. \n\n$15 cash tickets at the door only! SUMMARY:Hair of the Dog with Loren Niemi
DESCRIPTION:“Moby Dick Tonight”\nLoren Niemi will tell a blended story using Melville’s Moby Dick classic as a crucible to examine our current situation in American Culture as obsession and fantasy rein powerful and dangerous. He will ask:\n\n“What is your White Whale?”\n\nWhile the essence of the story has always been “Man fights whale\, whale wins\,” Loren has used the elements of a young man’s search for adventure\, whaling as an industry\, our obsessions and grievances\, and homo eroticism which are all present in the novel as a metaphor (or if you would prefer\, a Rorschach) for understanding American Culture. This performance will touch on in our current situation\, the creation and pursuit of any number of “white whales.”\n\n\n\nLoren Niemi has been telling personal and reconfigured traditional stories for over four decades now. His work combines vivid imagery with touches of poetry and a surprising intimacy.\n\n \n\n\n\nTo register:\n\n\n Add the number of tickets you want by clicking the ‘+’ button\n Click the ‘Get Tickets’ button\n Note- After purchase\, tickets & receipt may arrive in your ‘Junk Mail’ folder

SUMMARY:Hair of the Dog with Howard Lieberman
DESCRIPTION:“My Life As An Oxymoron”\n \nA devoutly agnostic progressive who loves Israel\, tells tales of greed\, avarice and love. A bumpy ride sure to cause a stir. Bring your boxing gloves and a sense of humor. \nHoward Lieberman has done everything on stage except sing\, which he would gladly do if he could carry a tune. He grew up on the North Side of Chicago with a professional tap dancer for a father and a math teacher for a mother\, which may explain his wild mood swings. As a young man\, Howard left the wholesome Midwest to find fame and fortune as a corporate attorney in New York City. 20 years and one child later\, he and his wife moved to staunchly Republican Stillwater\, MN with a New York accent and a jaded sense of humor. He has partnered with Loren Niemi for 18 years now of Fringe Festivals and cabaret performances as well as done solo and on-line performing where his unique blend of performance art\, improv and edgy personal narratives has made him a fixture in the national storytelling scene \n  \n\nTo register: \n\n\nAdd the number of tickets you want by clicking the ‘+’ button\nClick the ‘Get Tickets’ button\nNote- After purchase\, tickets & receipt may arrive in your ‘Junk Mail’ folder

There is no charge for this ramp. The front and back doors of the Pump House will be open during the festival. \nThe La Crosse Storytelling Festival was first conceived in 2003 by two local attorneys\, Keith Belzer and Ted Skemp. Through their efforts and backing\, the first 3 Festivals took place at Pettibone Park in La Crosse. It was in these first years that groundwork was lain for all following Festivals: the Festival would be first and foremost a family event\, the level of National talent would be of the highest caliber\, the Festival would highlight professional local tellers\, and the event would serve as a way to educate the general public about storytelling. \nIn 2006\, the Bluff Country Tale Spinners storytelling guild took on the major responsibility for the Festival. And\, as Wisconsin’s First Storytelling Festival\, it continues to meet the initial objectives. Come and enjoy the magic of storytelling!\nJoin us for our 24th Fest! \nDates: Friday\, September 11 and Saturday\, September 12\, 2026 \nLocation: The Pump House Regional Art Center in the Art District of downtown La Crosse.

But what happens when they encounter each other IRL? \n“An American and a Russian: Exploring the Other” brings together two storytellers—Bernadine\, an American\, and Sufian\, a Russian immigrant—to explore how they have imagined\, misunderstood\, and sometimes unexpectedly embraced the other. Join us for an evening of public history\, intimate remembrance\, and music. \nTeller Bios: \n \nAn academic by day\, Sufian Zhemukhov is an award-winning author and performer. His stories draw on his experience as a first-generation immigrant and college professor\, which might be funnier than you’d expect. \n \nBernadine Joselyn is the Minnesota-born descendant of white Protestant farmers and their settler forbearers. Imagination and longing led her from her childhood home in a first-ring Minneapolis suburb to New York City\, India\, the Soviet Union-later Russia\, and now\, rural Itasca County\, giving up civil society building for tree tending along the way. \n  \n\nTo register: \n\n\nAdd the number of tickets you want by clicking the ‘+’ button\nClick the ‘Get Tickets’ button\nNote- After purchase\, tickets & receipt may arrive in your ‘Junk Mail’ folder \n\n\n
